What makes a doctoral dissertation different
A PhD thesis is judged on something no earlier project is asked for: an original contribution to knowledge. Examiners want to see that you know the field well enough to locate a genuine gap, that your methods are defensible at a professional standard and that your findings change what is known, even if only a little. Length, typically 60,000 to 100,000 words in the UK and often several hundred pages in the US, adds a further challenge of keeping a single argument coherent across many chapters written months or years apart.
Our doctoral dissertation help is designed around those demands. Reviewers hold doctorates themselves, have supervised or examined at this level, and read your work the way a committee member would.
That means feedback that goes beyond surface issues. We ask whether your theoretical framework is doing real work in the analysis, whether your claims of originality are stated precisely enough, and whether a skeptical external examiner would accept the link between your evidence and your conclusions.
Situations where candidates bring us in
Stalled after data collection
You have the data but the analysis feels overwhelming, or the results did not turn out as expected. We help you see what the data can legitimately support and how to frame unexpected findings as a contribution rather than a failure. Heavier quantitative work can run through our statistical consulting.
Returning as ABD
Life intervened and the dissertation has sat untouched for a year or more. We start with a candid audit of what is usable, what is outdated and what a realistic path to completion looks like.
A difficult committee review
Pages of comments, some contradicting each other. We sort them into themes, prioritize them and help you draft a response document that shows how each one was addressed.
Losing coherence
Chapters written at different times no longer tell one story. We map the argument across the whole manuscript and show where the thread breaks.
How doctoral support is structured
Most PhD engagements begin with a diagnostic: you send the current manuscript or proposal, recent committee feedback and your timeline, and a senior reviewer writes a frank assessment of strengths, risks and priorities. From there we agree a plan, which might be a series of chapter reviews, a methods consultation, a block of regular sessions, or all three.
For candidates who mostly need structure and momentum over many months, PhD coaching may suit better than chapter-based review. When the defense date is set, our thesis defense and viva preparation runs full mock examinations. You can ask for a quote for any combination.
A second expert reader, not a substitute advisor
Your advisor or supervisor knows your project's history and your department's expectations, and they sign off on the final dissertation. We do not compete with that relationship. We add a second, independent expert reader who has time to go deep, asks the hard questions early and explains the reasoning behind every comment.
Because the contribution must be yours, we never write sections, generate text or produce analyses for you to present as your own. We explain, question, model approaches using other examples and edit what you have written. That boundary is set out on our academic integrity page, and it is what makes our support safe to use at doctoral level.
What you get
- An initial diagnostic of where the dissertation stands and what blocks progress
- Detailed written review of chapters, focusing on contribution, coherence and rigor
- Methodology and analysis consultation with a specialist in your approach
- Help responding to committee or examiner feedback, point by point
- Mock defense questions tailored to your project
- Editing of your own text once substance is settled
What we don't do
- We never author content for your dissertation; your contribution to knowledge must be yours
- We don't overrule your committee; we help you understand and respond to their direction
- We can't guarantee a pass, but we know the questions examiners ask and help you prepare for them
