Academic editing and proofreading services

The right level of editing for your document, from a final proofread to in-depth language editing, always done on your own text with tracked changes.

Editing is not one service. A thesis that is nearly ready needs a careful proofread; a journal manuscript written in a second language may need substantial language editing; an application essay needs a light touch that keeps your voice intact. Choosing the right level saves you time and money, and keeps your work within your university's or journal's rules.

For a final check of spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency, choose our proofreading services. For clarity, flow and academic tone, choose academic editing. Theses and dissertations have their own service, thesis and dissertation editing, which follows the editing policies many universities set for assessed work. Researchers preparing a paper can use manuscript and journal editing, and those writing in English as a second language can use English language editing.

Every edit is made with tracked changes and comments, so you see exactly what changed and decide what to keep. We edit your writing; we never add content or arguments of our own. See our academic integrity page for details.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between proofreading and editing?
Proofreading is a final check for surface errors and consistency. Editing goes further, improving clarity, flow and tone at sentence and paragraph level.
Is it allowed to have my thesis edited?
Many universities allow proofreading and language editing of assessed work within set limits. We follow those limits and recommend checking your own institution's policy.
Will you change my arguments or content?
No. We may flag unclear passages or gaps with a comment, but changes to content and argument are always yours to make.
How will I see the changes?
All edits are returned with tracked changes and comments in Word, or as suggestions in Google Docs, so you can accept or reject each one.
Which referencing styles do you work with?
APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard, Vancouver, IEEE and journal-specific styles, as well as university thesis templates.
